Way back in 2009, a friend who was managing a cocktail bar asked me if I would come down and photograph an event he was hosting called Voodoo Dolls, a tiki-themed burlesque and cocktails night (two things I knew almost nothing about at the time) and was the first proper ‘event’ I ever photographed under my own steam. I met a lot of great people that night, many of whom I have stayed in touch with since.

Fast forward to February 2012 and I spot a burlesque charity event on Facebook being hosted by Hero Next Door, a fundraiser for Papyrus UK. At the last minute I messaged the organisers and offered to donate my services as photographer, and thankfully they accepted not just for that event but also their more recent event, the Burlesque Carnival, hosted at Aberdeen’s Forum on the 29th June this year. What follows is a selection of photos from that night’s performances as well as from my own pop-up studio.
